Healing is a funny thing. One day you think youve put things in the past and the next you're back inside those memories. Healing is not a linear process or path, it's filled with ups and downs, curves and bends. It's how you cope that really matters. You can't let the curves and bends bring you down.
Coping is the important part, but it also might be the hardest part. How do you deal with all the emotions? How do you handle the bombardment of memories? The way you cope can show what your healing looks like. May it be positive or negative, it tells you how you're doing. Finding those positive ways of coping is also hard. It's hard to figure out what works for you. Trial and error.
For me, coping means art. And it doesn't really matter what type of art. Music, painting, photography, knitting, diving into a movie or TV show or writing (like writing this). I love art. I see so much emotion in art. And I've seen first hand just how art can transform your life. When you can hear yourself in a song, see yourself in a movie or show, or feel your emotions in a piece of artwork it's empowering. It's comforting to find you aren't alone in what you feel. It brings peace to the mind and soul.
My personal bit of art mainly is painting. Painting when I'm sad, frustrated, numb.. getting it all out on the canvas. Each color, brush stroke, every detail represents my emotion in different ways.
But I also love to draw. Drawing all the things I can't paint. Taking a song and it's raw emotion and drawing something I can feel connects me to what the song made me feel that emotion. Like this below called Popular Monster made for the song Popular Monster by Falling In Reverse (I highly recommended it for anyone battling a harsh mentality).
Then there is my photography where I can capture the right moment that makes you feel everything and nothing (in a good way) all at the same time. I love creating that moment! It gives me pride in my skill as an artist!
See with art, comes emotions. However, in a way that let's you know you're not alone. If you felt anything looking at my art, then you felt my emotions. You felt my heart. But that also means I felt your heart and your emotions too. And that means you're not alone. And that means we can heal together.
Healing won't be easy, but finding your outlet to cope makes it a hell of a lot easier! I hope you find yours. I hope you can let out all that emotion and be able to work through it.
